Ferrari has turbocharged engines in the past but recently they have been keeping with the naturally aspirated kind. With the current move toward more fuel efficient engines, manufacturers are turning more to turbocharging as an effective way of reducing gas consumption while still keeping power. Ferrari said it will not release a turbocharged engine until it can remove all lag. One solution they researched was Fiat’s variable valve technology called Multiair. It produced great torque but did not work well at high rpms. So back to the drawing board Ferrari goes.
