Electric Supercharger

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Controlled Power Technologies is working on their version of the electric superchager. The idea behind an electric supercharger is it provides boost without the lag of a turbochargers and doesn’t suffer parasitic loss like a supercharger does. CPT’s supercharger works on 12V and in the test run of a 1.2L engine it provided 50% increase in torque below 3K RPM compared to the same turbocharged engine. We agree with Jalopnik, we would love to see these on a bigger engine. The thought of a V8 with instant boost from idle would be very fun.

Twins Turbo Viper Dyno Run

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

This is one of the sickest Vipers I have seen. These are some eye candy of it’s dyno run. At 4 psi of boost the car is making 950 horsepower and 806 torque. I would bet they are planning on more power after further tuning.

1.6 Liter Inline 4 Cylinder Ford Ecoboost Engine

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Ford has finally announced officially the four cylinder Ecoboost engine. It will produce 180 horsepower and 170 torque from 1500 RPM. Going forward, Ford will shift its powertrain allocations. Under the new system:

  • A 3.5L EcoBoost V6 would replace NA V8 engines
  • A 2.0L EcoBoost I4 would replace NA V6 engines
  • A 1.6L EcoBoost I4 would replace NA large I4 engines

Could we see a turbocharged Ford mustang coming out? For those who enjoy forced induction enignes, the future looks bright.
