Turbo and Supercharged Opel Manta

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Hilmersson Racing has taken a Opel Manta and added a Volvo B230 engine with a Garret GT-40 turbo and a Eaton M62 supercharger. In all the videos can you can hear the compressors very clearly. Adding both those together this engine makes 578 horsepower at 6300rpm and 520 lb.-ft. torque. The Manta’s transmission comes from a BMW and the brakes are from a Corvette. With most of the engine bay and interior gutted except for what is needed to run this car comes in at 2,314 pounds. So far the car has done a 10.52 at 135.14 mph 1/4 mile (last video).

SSC Aero

Shelby Supercars, aka the kings of speed plan to keep the high speed record safe in their garage with the debut of the 2009 SSC Aero. The newest Aero plans on bumping the power up 15% to 1,287 horsepower. With this extra power the mathematical top speed goes from 255 mph to 270 mph. The engine is now a 1-piece billet aluminum block which helps with boost strength and oiling capabilities. At that speed Shelby Supercars figured huge brakes were not enough so they designed the Aerobrake, a rear spoiler system that deploys under heavy braking situations. Body design was changed to increase down force and stability. Including the new air inlets increasing incoming air by 20%. Those radiators need as much air as they can get to cool those turbos down.

Also included is large frame turbo header, triple pump 1600cc fuel system, Motec M800 EMS with Toyota Supra wiring harness, and 280 degree intake and exhaust cams. If this is a little too much for you they also offer a few other package.

Japaense tuner Liberty Walk F40

Right when I saw this image it grabbed my attention. Then as I continued to read the article I knew I had to post it. Not much was done besides suspension, paint, and custom center lug wheels. Still looks very unique to see a car such as this in this fashion.
