Another Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 911 Video

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

This time the video showcases a Cobb tuned Nissan GT-R and a Techart tuned Porsche 911. The GT-R has 600 hp, weights 3,600 lbs., and costs $99K. The 911 has 630 hp, weights 3,400 lbs., and costs $260K. The test was conducted at Willow Springs Raceway. The tuning companies can do a lot to boost the performance of a car and can also do a lot to mess it up. After watching this video it seems many sport car manufacturers really have something to worry about and price doesn’t mean everything.

Corvette ZR1 on Chrysler oval track

Motor Trend just recently did their speed tests with the 2009 Corvette ZR1. In those tests they found out the Corvette can go from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. It does the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds at 124.4 mph. They were also able to get 1.1 lateral Gs out of a turn. Even funnier was the tests were conducted on Chrysler’s Arizona testing oval.

Porsche 911 Turbo VS. Nissan GT-R

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Fifth-Gear put GP2 Series racing star Bruno Senna in both a GT-R and a 911 to see which one would put in a faster time. Raced on a semi-wet track the GT-R and 911 put up very close numbers. You will have to watch the video to see which one was better. But some interesting things Bruno talked about in the video that I will mention is that the GT-R seems to have less turbo lag then the Porsche. Which is surprising since Porsche used variable turbine geometry in the new 911 to decrease turbo lag. He also says the GT-R is easier to drive wide open then the Porsche. Porsches have a tendency to have the back come around when lifting off the accelerator. The GT-R’s paddle shift seems to be crisp and quick. Another interesting point that might be of little concern to anyone who can afford either car was the fuel consumption. Bruno only points out the GT-R’s consumption but it seems to be so much it surprised him. He blows through half the tank after twenty minutes.

Trident Iceni: Turbo Diesel Sportscar

Trident Iceni Diesel Supercar

The Trident has plans to build a diesel supercar called Iceni. Trident has used GM’s 6.6L turbo diesel V8 Duramax producing 550 hp and 950 ft-lbs of torque. All this power is needed to achieve 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and speeds over 200 mph. The transmission is an 8 speed automatic controlled by paddle shifts behind the steering wheel. Since the Duramax engine has plenty of torque very high gear ratios can be used in highway driving thus reducing gas consumption which is important to Trident. Trident claims the Iceni will deliver 57 mpg. We sure hope some of these get into the public so we can test those great numbers.
