1653 Horsepower Nelson Racing LS7

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Nelson Racing can sure build some powerful engines. Take for example the twin turbo beast they built for Mike Vietro’s Mosler MT900S. The engine was proven to do 1,635 horsepower and 1,481 lb-ft torque at 5,600 RPM on race fuel. Under normal pump gas the engine can still get over 1,000 horsepower. Not much is said besides it is a LS7 motor with Nelson Racing twin turbo package.

1300 HP Lingenfelter Corvette Does 226.25 MPH

Lingenfelter Corvette with 1300 hp

On May 2007 a special Lingenfelter Corvette did a standing mile in 25.12 seconds at 226.25 mph. The Corvette was able to reach this speed because of its massive 1,300 horsepower on 23 psi of boost from a 427 cubic inch twin turbo engine. But even on 93 octane fuel the Corvette put out 1,100 horsepower and did 0-200 mph in 18.34 seconds. Someone did the math and based on the horsepower and drag of the car it was estimated the car could do 300 mph. Of course math doesn’t always translate to reality. It would be great to see what this car could do at the salt flats and see how close it could really get to 300 mph. Besides the engine the only real modifications were safety such as a roll cage and 5 point harness. This Corvette had full interior, stock seats, air conditioning, factory suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 on HRE 840R wheels.

These companies are going to push the envelope farther and farther until we see some unbelievable numbers. If history is any proof we will see some a very robust aftermarket catalog for the GT-R.

2009 Ford Focus RS Off to Good Start

2009 Ford Focus RS

Ford says there has been a flood of inquires from UK drivers for the 2009 Focus RS and has reportedly taken 1,000 orders. I have no idea why? It has an engine that puts 300 horsepower to the ground through a 2.5 L turbocharged engine. Its basic body looks very sporty but not too crazy. The fact that it is factory turbocharged will allow a lot of room for aftermarket parts and tuning. Even the green paint seems to be a hit with 40% of orders asking for the color. I sure hope they bring this to the United States.

HKS tuned Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Hyundai will have one of their new Genesis coupes tuned by HKS at SEMA 2008. There is no mention if HKS used the four or six cylinder model but it would seem more likely they would use the four since that comes factory turbocharged. Cars looking like this will do a lot to change Hyundai’s image. Check out Jalopnik’s link below for more details.

Stage 2 delivers 1100 horsepower and costs $50,000. And if somehow that wasn’t enough and you need a super drag car or something that will kill you in a blur they offer a Stage 3 kit that will net you and astonding 1,400-1,900 horsepower but you have to call to find out the price. Something tells me from the build list it will cost a few pennies.
