Best Aftermarket Add-on

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Ray Wert of Jalopnik asked the question “what is the best aftermarket add-on” for your automobile? He voiced his opinion for a roots supercharger as the best and pointed to its efficiency as a huge plus. I will go ahead and add some more fuel since this is a forced induction blog, turbocharger or supercharger?

Electric Supercharger

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Controlled Power Technologies is working on their version of the electric superchager. The idea behind an electric supercharger is it provides boost without the lag of a turbochargers and doesn’t suffer parasitic loss like a supercharger does. CPT’s supercharger works on 12V and in the test run of a 1.2L engine it provided 50% increase in torque below 3K RPM compared to the same turbocharged engine. We agree with Jalopnik, we would love to see these on a bigger engine. The thought of a V8 with instant boost from idle would be very fun.

Porsche Might Use Supercharged Four Cylinder Engines

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Porsche’s answer to growing CO2 restrictions might be supercharged four cylinder engines. Porsche’s Klaus Bening made such a statement to AutoCar that the next generation Boxster and Cayman might have such a engine in them around 2012. With Porsche’s history with turbocharging, it must be either cheaper to supercharge those engines or they expect customers to prefer the powerband of such a setup.

Hennessey Corvette ZR700 has 705 Horsepower

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hennessey has released its first ZR package that bumps the horsepower up to 705 and torque to 717 Lb.-Ft. All that power gets the ZR a height of 212mph a 10.90 quarter mile time at 132 mph. By the looks of the drag video below there is some lost time there on the tree. Obvioulsy they are slowing ramping up the horsepower and torque numbers. I know there must be a twin turbo package being developed right now targeted at that crazy 1K HP mark.

1000HP Dodge Challenger SRT8

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

The 425 horsepower Hemi in a Dodge Challenger SRT8 sometimes is enough and sometimes it is not. If you find yourself needed a little bit more power, you might want to stop by Ohio based RDP Performance. There they will take your Dodge Challenger and add twin superchargers and a nitrous system to boost the output to 1,000 horsepower. RDP Performance’s SRT is able to put down a 9 second quarter mile.
